Alicia Story

Computers4Kids:  Alicia’s Story

When Alicia enrolled in Computers4Kids a few years ago, she did so because she wanted to know more about computers, not because she thought it would change her future.  Never an outstanding student, Alicia’s teachers never really considered her “college material,” and she believed them. Alicia was, however, excited about computers and worked with her Computers4Kids mentor every week for nine months.

During that time, Alicia learned new skills on the computer and, with the help of her mentor’s support and encouragement, began gaining confidence in herself as someone who can learn new things, be creative, and solve complex problems for herself.  By the time she graduated from Computers4Kids, Alicia had gained enough confidence in herself that she decided she would apply for college, a plan she previously would have never considered.

A true success story, not only did Alicia get accepted to college, but she is now a Dean’s List student and is contemplating graduate school as well. Alicia has accomplished things well beyond what she once thought she was capable of and she thanks her Computers4Kids mentor for believing in her when others did not.
